EUPD Research的终端客户监测系统显示出自用型光伏系统的重要性正日益提高。如今，只有6%的光伏系统所有者会采取措施提高自用率。在2020年，总计82%的新安装系统的运营商会根据太阳能电力的可用情况调整家用电器的使用。大约41%的人依靠电池储能来增加自己的太阳能耗电量。
2020年，超过四分之一的光伏系统购买者打算购买电动汽车或已经购买电动汽车。车辆增加的功耗在2500至4,000千瓦时之间，这意味着自用电量会大大增加。高达两成的光伏系统运营者正考虑在将来使用智能家电；14%有意购买热泵。
