根据SAPVIA估算，南非在今年第一季度新增约928兆瓦光伏装机。其中包括自2024年12月以来通过该国旗舰“可再生能源独立电力生产商采购计划”（REIPPPP）并网的280兆瓦项目，以及647兆瓦的非REIPPPP光伏项目。
928兆瓦的新增装机量显示出南非光伏市场的强劲增长，预计今年新增装机将超过2024年的1.1吉瓦。南非单年光伏装机纪录为2023年的2.6吉瓦。
SAPVIA对《光伏杂志》表示，截至2025年年中，南非累计光伏装机量估计为9457兆瓦。该协会补充称：“项目储备健康，其中截至2025年7月，光伏项目总规模达1.0078吉瓦，占整体14.9吉瓦储备项目的绝大部分。此外，还有11个REIPPPP项目仍在建设中。”
REIPPPP是南非公用事业规模光伏市场的重要驱动力。今年7月，南非政府批准了第七轮采购中的六个新增光伏项目，总装机容量1290兆瓦，这是今年南非最大规模的公用事业光伏项目承诺。
这1290兆瓦的容量来自未被使用的陆上风电项目指标的重新分配。SAPVIA表示：“这一战略举措确保了未被利用的风电容量能够迅速转向可快速部署并并网的光伏项目，从而强化了南非加速清洁能源转型的承诺。”
除REIPPPP外，南非市场正逐步采用储能与可再生能源配套的方案，以增强电网稳定性。例如，Mzansi能源财团近期在北部林波波省注册了一个110兆瓦的光伏+储能项目。
SAPVIA还指出，南非的工商业（C&I）市场前景可观，自2024年6月以来，已有100兆瓦规模介于100千瓦至1兆瓦之间的项目注册，另有250兆瓦规模介于1兆瓦至50兆瓦的项目也已备案。
相比之下，随着“限电”（load shedding）的结束，南非的住宅光伏市场出现放缓迹象。协会解释称：“从申请PV GreenCard会员的新增光伏安装公司数量来看，这一趋势较为明显，但目前尚无法量化。”
今年早些时候，南非政府正式批准了国家可再生能源总体规划，目标是每年部署至少3吉瓦新增可再生能源，到2030年增至5吉瓦。
今年8月，南非国有电力公司Eskom推出了可再生能源购电计划，面向有意签订购电协议的大型用电客户。首批招标涉及291兆瓦光伏容量。
