马来西亚能源和自然资源部已启动一项计划，旨在让该国家庭和工业消费者能够购买到太阳能和水电等可再生能源电力。
通过这项绿色电价（GET）计划，政府每年将提供4500 GWh的电力，并就GET客户购买的每一千瓦时可再生能源电力额外收取0.037马来西亚林吉特（0.087美元）。该计划将向100千瓦时（住宅用户）和1000千瓦时（工业用户）的建筑物出售可再生能源。
新机制将从1月1日起生效，马来西亚公用事业公司Tenaga Nasional Berhad（TNB）将从12月1日开始受理消费者的申请。
据当地媒体透露，九家马来西亚公司已提交申请，要求专门使用可再生能源电力，其中包括联昌国际银行（CIMB Bank Bhd）、荷兰Lady Milk Industries Bhd、Nestlé (M) Bhd、Gamuda Bhd、HSBC Amanah Malaysia Bhd以及Tenaga本身。
目前，马来西亚政府正推广净计量法促进分布式太阳能发展并通过一系列招标活动支持大型光伏项目。国际可再生能源机构（International Renewable Energy Agency）称，到2020年底该国的太阳能发电装机容量约达1439 MW。
