芬兰初创企业极夜能源公司宣布，其位于芬兰南部波尔奈宁的工业级沙电池系统在区域供热公司Loviisan Lämpö调试后现已投入运营。
波尔奈宁沙电池系统可提供1 MW的热能，并具有100 MWh的储能容量，使其比2022年在坎康佩推出 推出 的全球首个商业沙基高温储热系统大10倍，同时也是迄今为止全球规模最大的沙电池系统。
该沙电池系统近13米高，15米宽，使用约2000吨碎皂石作为储热介质。
该沙电池系统将成为波尔奈宁区域供热网络的主要生产设施，可满足该市夏季近一个月的供暖需求，以及冬季近一个星期的需求。
预计该沙电池系统将使当地供热网络的年二氧化碳当量排放量减少约160吨，使波尔奈宁区域供热产生的温室气体排放量减少近70%；此外，还将使该市供热网络完全逐步淘汰石油，并使木屑消耗量减少约60%。

Loviisan Lämpö公司首席执行官Mikko Paajanen表示，该市目标是在2035年之前实现气候中和，而“沙电池系统是朝着这一目标迈出的重要一步。” 该项目于 2024年3月首次宣布， 2024年11月开始测试。建设期间涉及约40个分包商和100多名工人。
