智利环境管理局(SEA)已经批准在该国北部阿塔卡马沙漠的Vallenar地区建造一座250MW（AC）的太阳能发电厂。
当地政府表示，这一设施的投资额为6.2亿美元，将创造731个工作岗位。但这一数字为项目开发商Sol de Vallenar Spa——西班牙Cox Energy的子公司在2014年向SEA首次提交方案时报备的。该公司在其新闻稿却称，这一项目的投资额为2.4亿欧元，在工程建设期间将创造300多个工作岗位，在运营和维护阶段将创造20个工作岗位。
根据SEA在当时收到的文件，这一电站将使用约98万块光伏组件，并建造一条8.5公里长的1×220kV互连线及一条0.4公里长的输电线。
智利最大的太阳能发电厂之一Romero太阳能电站也位于Vallenar地区，西班牙Acciona公司在2016年底将该电站并网入智利国家电网。
而开发商Cox Energy公司今年与西班牙电力分销商Audax签订了一个660兆瓦太阳能的长期PPA，并籍此进入了太阳能领域。据了解，该公司还将与一家国际性公司合作开发一座新的太阳能电站，但公司没有就此透露更多的细节。
