阿联酋环球铝业公司（EGA）公布了一项计划，将在阿联酋一个未指明的地点生产金属硅。
这家制造商表示：“阿联酋目前尚不具备在国内制造金属硅的能力，而EGA是迄今为止这种材料的最大进口商，年需求量约为6万吨。全球大约70%的金属硅制造能力都在中国，这一电力密集型产业主要以煤炭为动力。”
该计划还可能为太阳能和半导体产业制造太阳能级硅。EGA表示：“国内金属硅供应将为开发当地太阳能光伏制造价值链创造机会。”
EGA首席执行官Abdulnasser Bin Kalban表示，建设金属硅制造厂将保障这种战略性原材料的供应。
他说道：“一旦满足了我们自身的需求，我们还可以进一步扩张，为公司创造新的增长机会，同时支持发展符合《3000亿行动》（Operation 300bn）和阿联酋制造（Make it in the Emirates）以及全球能源转型目标的地方新兴产业。我们最早将在明年动工建设一家金属硅工厂。”
该公司没有透露任何关于产能或首选制造技术的细节。
