葡萄牙能源和地质总局最近公布了最新的可再生能源统计数据，包括亚速尔和马德拉自治区的数据。
截至10月底，该国可再生能源装机容量达到14.5吉瓦，其中光伏发电量占到1.03吉瓦左右。前10个月新安装的太阳能发电量为124兆瓦，主要是今年并入葡萄牙电网的无补贴大型光伏电站。
该国的光伏装机容量约占到全国电力需求总量的3%。但是，随着葡萄牙当局在该国前两次光伏拍卖中分配了约2吉瓦的太阳能发电量，预计这一比例在未来几年里将大幅增长。
另外有3.5吉瓦的太阳能发电量也可能在未来几个月内进行调整，因为电网运营商REN承诺，如果开发商承担起加强输电网的责任，它将批准更多的大型太阳能发电厂接入电网。 这类项目的一个例子是西班牙国家电力公司Endesa和葡萄牙开发商Hyperion计划在埃沃拉市开发的257兆瓦发电厂。Divor发电厂将采用57,111块太阳能电池板和一套10兆瓦的储能系统来建造，拥有两个小时的自主权。预计年发电量为40万兆瓦时。
截至2011年底，葡萄牙光伏发电装机容量仅为174兆瓦。这意味着，在过去的十几年里，该国累计光伏发电装机量以年均50%以上的速度增长。
