GSE公布了意大利主要变电站的交互式地图。该工具允许用户根据意大利自用消费相关的法规要求，对能源社区的连接点进行地理定位。
自用消费集体由同一建筑物或建筑群内的消费者组成，而能源社区则涵盖更广的范围，包括电源附近的企业和公共组织等。
GSE必须每两年更新一次交互式地图，其目前列出了全国大约2000个主要变电站。
在意大利，能源社区中200 kW以下的共享可再生能源系统不仅可享受特殊税费，还可将多余的电力免费注入电网，这也许会促进储能系统的采用。
自用电力避免了账单收费，但缺乏直接激励，而是依靠免除每千瓦时0.13欧元（0.14美元）至0.20欧元不等的电力成本来进行间接激励。 2020年3月，意大利出台了针对太阳能社区的新规定。
