新加坡太阳能开发商Sunseap已与负责印尼巴淡岛管理、开发和建设的公共机构——巴淡印尼自由区管理局（BP Batam）签署了一份谅解备忘录，将在该地区南部的Duriangkang水库兴建一个2.2 GW的浮式光伏项目。
这个项目一旦建成，将成为世界上最大的浮式光伏电站，并将达到与目前运行中最大规模地面设施（位于中国青海省的一座2.2 GW电站）相比拟的容量。
该设施计划占用1600公顷的水面，并与一个容量为4000 MWh的储能系统搭配。
Sunseap说，Duriangkang水库为巴淡岛提供了一半以上的淡水供应，漂浮在水面上的太阳能电池板将有助于减少蒸发，从而在水库中蓄留更多的水。Sunseap进一步解释说，“与此同时，水又能保持太阳能电池板的冷却，从而产生更多的清洁能源，并创造一种协同作用关系。Sunseap预计该太阳能发电场每年将产生超过2600 GWh的电力，每年可能抵消超过180万公吨的碳排放。”
“在我们沿着柔佛海峡部署好新加坡第一个海上浮式太阳能发电场之后不久，这个超大规模的项目对Sunseap而言是一个重要的里程碑，”Sunseap首席执行官Frank Phuan表示，“Sunseap的这笔投资将及时地推动巴淡岛的工业发展，因为他们正在努力减少其运营中的碳足迹。同时它将为巴淡岛的清洁能源行业创造就业岗位并传授技能，”BP Batam局长Muhammad Rudi补充道。
该项目将通过银行借款和自有资金进行融资，计划明年动工，于2024年完工。
